⏵ conduit
That isn’t to say Noctis lacks a regal bearing. While he can be awkward in regular social situations, he’s far and away a confident leader in tense political negotiations. This is because he was brought up in a highly strict environment around adult politicians and meticulously groomed to become one of them. Therefore, he is comfortable representing himself as a statesman far more than ... you know, an ordinary young person. It’s thanks to Prompto’s tireless efforts that Nocits can even function somewhat normally in public and not be completely stiff. He carries the weight of a kingdom on his shoulders, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be allowed to exist as a human being every now and then. Maybe. He’s working on it, at least.
Still, the kid can get a little cocky when it comes to the things he excels in. Although he doesn’t openly brag, he’s very proud of his accomplishments, and isn’t afraid to show off a bit. This is where the laziness kicks in: if it were up to Noctis, he wouldn’t practice. It’s partly because he’s never been allowed to have a break his entire life. He’s now so desperate for downtime, he’ll take it whenever he can get it. To say that he’s lazy, though, would be a lie. Noctis worked hard to graduate at the top of his class while working a part-time job that had nothing to do with his duties as a prince. Noctis pushes himself to extremes, which inevitably leads to burnout. And that doesn’t even touch on his clinical depression.
It’s truly remarkable that despite all his setbacks, Noctis grew up so profoundly kind. He’s deeply compassionate, always willing to help anyone in need without hesitation, and his capacity for love is boundless. Noctis deeply cares for his friends, but his biggest challenge lies in the fact that he’s too proud to ask for help from them, and he finds it immensely difficult even articulating that. So much has been expected of him since birth that Noctis shuts down when he needs real support. He’s stubborn in the extreme and resolved to push through even when he’s in pain, and he needs to learn that it’s okay to lean on people.
This inability to allow himself vulnerability stems from Noctis’ complicated relationship with his father. He remembers a warm, caring man who doted on him as a young child before an attack nearly took Noctis’ life. After that, Regis turned cold, rarely interacting with his son beyond tense silences, harsh punishments, and asking others to report on his life. Regis even blatantly hides his deteriorating health to Noctis, who only finds out from the news. Perhaps Regis was just protecting his son, but that isn’t what Noctis internalized. He saw himself as a burden to his father, and by extension, to his friends. They all sacrifice so much for him. What right does he have to ask for their help? He’s getting better at this, but it’s still a very long road.

abilities:
⏵ conduit
Like the Lucian kings before him, Noctis is able to access the power within the Crystal, a magical artifact providing mortals with special abilities. He can siphon that power to others by creating a magic bond between himself and someone else, who then access it through Noctis. In essence, he’s a walking conduit, which can be incredibly draining as it draws from his own life force. With this power, he can access the Armiger,⏵ summonermanifest spectral weaponsCURRENTLY INACCESSIBLE, warp short distances, and craft spells for others to use (which could work in another world if they identified sources of elemental energy to draw from).
Three Astrals will offer their aid if summoned (Titan, Ramuh, and Garuda), though since they’re gods, they can be a bit finicky in terms of responsiveness. Noctis really, really doesn’t like doing this, as it’s both terrifying to experience and a huge physical drain on his energy level. One single summon can essentially exhaust and put him out of commission for several hours.⏵ ghost hunter
While Noctis doesn’t often volunteer this information, as it’s unusual (even for a world with living gods), he can see and interact with spirits. It’s unclear why, exactly, though it’s likely because they recognize his special connection with the gods and view him as a source of good will. Noctis enjoys helping them and will make time for it whenever possible.⏵ swordsman
He’s trained in the art of swordplay since he was very young. It’s one of the few skills Noctis feels confident in, and he’s very proud of the progress he’s made. Generally, he prefers using his father’s sword, but he’s proficient with other types as well, including lances, greatswords, and daggers.⏵ angler
It’s not something he’s had much time for given his strictly scheduled childhood, but Noctis really enjoys fishing, and he’s got quite the knack for it. The pastime brings him a lot of much-needed relaxation.personality: Noctis is socially awkward, hotheaded, stubborn, moody, and a notoriously picky eater. He’s also a young man of very few words, preferring to cut to the chase instead of dancing around a subject. This is thanks to the fact that Noctis grew up almost entirely removed from the world — he had no family outside of his father and the ever-rotating roster of palace attendants. Ignis and Gladio, his primary retainers, were the closest thing he had to real friends for years. People mistake him for being arrogant and aloof, but really, he’s just shy and anxious.
